Fewer trucks are being ordered. While orders are up over the recent record lows, the December to December class 8 truck orders are down 55% to 23,100.
The Jones Act strikes again. Recall the 100 year old Jones Act (Merchant Marine Act, 1920) that prevents any foreign built, or foreign manned ships from carrying product from say Houston to Boston. With the cancellation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and the PennEast Pipelines, and the general lack of pipeline capacity into the North East, Boston is on a path to import LNG (Liquified natural gas) from the Middle East or Russia. Go figure.
